Arrival in a foreign country
Changing places, either voluntarily or involuntarily, are a special feature of our time given the 65 million fugitives in the world.
The train station of Cerbere in the south of France, - a border station to Spain – fascinates me since I read about the Spanish Retirada and the flight of Walter Benjamin.
Reports about today's migration movements inspire me to artistically address the theme of flight and arrival. Behind the harmonic effect of combining heterogeneous elements through the artistic technique of collage and blending of photos on foil and painting, stands the disruption of our contemporary reality. Photos get removed from their original context and merged into a new reality. The question of "what is real?" arises again.
